Major changes to BW boat licences proposed

British Waterways has dropped a bombshell by announcing that it intends to adopt dramatically different licence prices for next year.

The proposals would see a surcharge for continuous cruisers and wide-beam boats. The surcharge would be £50 per annum for wide-beam craft (or £30 on a river licence), and £150 for continuous cruisers.

In addition to this, there will be a 6.6% across-the-board increase.

The suggestions were originally made by the British Waterways Advisory Forum - a closed, invitation-only group set up by BW - and will be subject to a consultation closing in two months' time, on 7th November. If adopted, they are expected to take effect from 1st April 2009.
