Narrowboat painting

I'm narrowing down my choice of company to paint my boat this year or next and have talked to people offering hand painting by brush, spray painting and, now, hand painting by roller. I've more or less ruled our spray painting but is there a significant difference between hand painting by brush and by roller?

Where to put a cooker on our narrowboat

We're redesigning our kitchen and intended having an 'L' shape with the cooker to the side. I noticed in your January issue when you're reviewing the narrowboat you say 'they sensibly put the cooker down the centre line'. Could you let me know why it's better to do this? Many thanks, Pat

adding batteries to an existing bank.

I am taking on a boat for the first time in Feb.The boat has a bank of three liesure and one starter which I presume is fine when moored and plugged into 240v . I am thinking of adding one possibly three for the purposses of having sufficient power whilst moving around the cut. Will this affect the existing setup or is this acceptable. There is a 2000 victrone invertor on the boat. And on the same vien is it possible for me to plug a generator straight into the system for power as required? Yeah I know lots of asks

Water leak from Alde boiler

A small puddle of water forms occasionally under the boiler on our boat. There's what looks like a drain hose (clear plastic tube, about a quarter inch diameter) at the foot of the boiler: the hose does not drain into anything - it rests on the floor -and seems to have water droplets in it sometimes. Could this be the cause? There don't appear to be any leaks from the boiler itself.

Fridge wiring

I recently rewired my fridge in 60foot narrowboat. I took advice from Chandlery who said go direct to the batteries instead of going via the trip switch panel. Have now been told it will fail BSS inspection as new regs say it must be wired via battery isolation switch. Can I fit an in line isolator switch near to the battery bank and will that meet the BSS regulations?
