Paint on Stamford

Can you give more details of the Red Matt Deck Pint on the roof of Stamford

Asked by: David Hargreaves  | 12.05pm, Saturday 11 June

WW says:

I suspect that it was Raddle Red, but do not know the manufacturer ( Craftmaster and Rylard make a version). A matt red oxide coloured paint is traditional for narrowboat roofs as it is not slippery when wet and dries rapidly compared to gloss paint and does not reflect sunlight into the steerers eyes. It does not however last quite as well as a true gloss paint and can shed pigment as it ages.
