Q & A

the admiral nelson pub braunston

will this pub be opening again, we found it the best canal side pub and visited there many times, from the canal and also when we went to the annual narrow boat fair at braunston and walked up to the pub

WW says:

We understand the Nelson is to reopen around the end of this week.

Great shame to hear Nelson is closed, hopefully only for a short while. The Nelson has a long history of being the boatmen's pub. In recent years the owners extended the bar room to create a dining area and I have shared many happy drinks and meals there.

We believe the pub company wants to reopen it, and certainly in any other economic climate it would be a cert. However these are very difficult times for pub landlords - a walk around WW's home town of Burton-on-Trent, once the brewing capital of Britain, reveals countless pubs to let or boarded up.

Yes, the Admiral Nelson is now open. We visited ywice on Saturday 11th April. Lunch time sncks were very good and excellent value for money. Booked for evening meal but booking was not properly recoreded. Pub was quite busy, their first full Saturday in business. Food was average pub grub and priced slightly over average. They will need to improve the evening service if they are to succeed as they will not be able to relt solely on passing boaters for trade. We would still go back for good beer and lunch time snacks.
