how do you get a registration for a canal boat shell that is old with no papers

does anybody know how to get a registration for a canal boat shell that has been out of the water for a few years and has no documents or records for it?

WW says:

Just get a BSS for the shell, then fill in a BW licence application- all you need is a minimum third party insurance.
That is about all the paperwork you need (or will be able to get) unless you want to go down the formal route of registration under the merchant shipping acts- which is unusual on inland boats in the UK
