WW says:

Most of the heaters are 5kW which is fine; the most important thing is to make sure the system dissipates the heat efficiently. This stops the boiler cycling on and off which uses battery power and shortens its life. As to whether to choose Eberspacher, Webasto, Mikuni................ it is up to you, but make sure it is a marine heater to ensure it passes the BSS.

For more information download the article "The burning question" from June 2010 which looks at sizing diesel heating systems and ensuring that they work properly.
A 4KW heater will have to work harder which is good... As Rupert says, you need enough convector space and don't expect to use the boiler just to heat a calorifier- they don't work well for that! More info in the article.
