Q & A

making a dinette

where can I get the plans to build one

Asked by: terry buchan  | 7.26pm, Saturday 31 August

WW says:

There are many styles of dinette - 'L'shaped, 'U' shaped, Pullman, single sided - and each can have several variants like whether they convert to a double bed, how the storage within is accessed etc. Also, each one is a slightly different size and proportion from the others to make it fit in to a particular boat.
It would therefore be very difficult to produce a set of plans that was right for every situation and I certainly don't know of one. Your best bet is to have a look at as many types of dinette as you can and decide which is best for you and your boat. If you are lucky, you may be able to run a tape measure over is to get the basic dimensions and see how it is put together. If you don't feel confident enough to go it alone after that, there are several travelling boat fitter/joiners around the system who could advise you and do the job,

There are plans for a straight and L shaped extending double berths in WW issues May 2011 & June 2011. If you enter "Mike Jordan" in the article search at the top right of the page you will find the PDF
