Baldry is IWA Parliamentarian of the Year

The Inland Waterways Association presented Sir Tony Baldry MP with its 2014 ‘Parliamentarian of the Year’ award at the annual IWA dinner at the House of Commons on Monday 10th March.

Sir Tony, MP for Banbury and a former waterways minister in John Major’s 1990s administration, was given the award for his long history of support for the waterways, including opening the 1991 IWA National Festival at Windmill End, and attending Waterway Recovery Group digs. He remained a member of IWA for over 20 years and is co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Waterways Group.

At the dinner Les Etheridge praised the government’s continuing commitment to transfer Environment Agency’s waterways to CRT, but said the IWA was disappointed the original hope of transfer in 2015/16 would not been met.
