New CRT Logo Leaked

In spite of assertions that it would remain top secret, images of the brand new Canal & River Trust logo have emerged online, and are causing quite a stir.

The new logo forms the centrepiece of the trust’s rebranding programme, which is to be launched at the end of May and aims to “accelerate growth in awareness of, and broaden support for, the trust.” 

Since being posted online, the logo has drawn sharp criticism, with many people suggesting that the old symbol – depicting a swan in front of a canal bridge – didn’t need changing. On Waterways World’s Facebook page, several members branded the logo “a waste of money”, and argued that its design costs would be better spent on maintaining the waterways system. 

However, the trust has stated that the rebrand is based on focus group feedback, involving “customers, volunteers, staff, supporters” and, crucially it feels, “those who currently have little involvement with the waterways.” 

Furthermore, it emphasises that, “No new money has been spent on developing the updated look, it has been paid for through the existing marketing budget”. The trust also adds that in an effort to keep costs down, “the new look and feel will be rolled out gradually over two to three years in many cases, and when things needs replacing”.
